Occupational Safety Program Office
In support of the JPL mission, the OSPO has the following responsibilities:
- Develop, implement/coordinate, and manage occupational safety, and industrial hygiene programs.
- Promulgate safety policies, system procedures, and instructions based on applicable outside agency standards/regulations and Laboratory requirements.
- Represent JPL for occupational safety and industrial hygiene concerns to NASA, other Federal, State and local government agencies, and contractors.
- Establish, participate in, and provide health and safety support for Laboratory safety committees.
- Conduct employee injury/illness and property damage investigations.
- Terminate activities that are an immediate danger to life and health. Normally, other than under emergency conditions as determined by the Occupational Safety Office, this will be accomplished by arranging with the cognizant manager for termination of the activity.
- Review, for safety and health approval, facility plans/drawings and procurement requisitions.
- Perform industrial hygiene assessments of Laboratory areas and prepare the Laboratory Business Plans.
- Develop and maintain documentation/record keeping as required by NASA and other Federal, State and local government agencies, such as the JPL Safety and Health Plan and industrial hygiene sampling records.
- Conduct safety and health reviews of facilities and work activities for compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations and NASA and JPL requirements.
- Assist as emergency first responders for employee injuries/illnesses and property damage.
