Environmental, Health and Safety Program Office

The Environmental, Health and Safety Office (EH&S) is chartered to establish and lead programs for systems, occupational, and environmental safety that appropriately manage risks and enhances the probability of mission safety and success. In this capacity, the EH&S Office is an independent organization, reporting directly to the Director for Office of Safety and Mission Success (OSMS), which continually assesses risk and provides infrastructure to ensure that the Laboratory maintains EH & S compliance with the Prime Contract, ISO, and Federal, State and local safety requirements.

The objective of the EH&S Office is to support the objectives of OSMS by directing the operations of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s occupational, environmental, and systems safety engineering programs to identify and eliminate as much as reasonably possible, all EH & S hazards relative to employees, visitors, and flight hardware. Risk must be controlled by limiting exposure to the hazards and by implementing measures, which will minimize the possibility of injury, illness or damage to flight hardware or property. The effectiveness of such programs must be reviewed continually and the programs modified when necessary to ensure their effectiveness.
